Funkin is expanding its range of “single-batch” syrups for bartenders to use in cocktails with the launch of a spiced syrup.
Available from September, Funkin Pro Spiced Syrup has a rich, warm infusion of nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, cardamom and cloves for use in drinks such as sangria, mulled wines and ciders and can be used as a base for falernum.
Plans for the syrup were revealed at Funkin’s inaugural bartender forum last year and it has already been widely approved of by the trade.
Ideas for more innovation in cocktail mixers, purées and syrups were introduced to a trade round table last month at the company’s second Funkin Innovation Forum, held at Daphne’s in Kensington.
It welcomed leading bartenders from London bars such as Andy Mil of The Cocktail Trading Co, Vlad Marc of The Ivy, Oskar Kinberg of Oskar’s Bar at Dabbous, Michele Mariotti of The Savoy, and Harry Gerakis and Russell Burgess of Loves Company as well as Jean-Marc Pothier from Le Hibou in Paris, France, and UK bar consultants Merlin Griffiths, Michael Butt and Glen Hooper.
This year’s Funkin Innovation Forum revealed that consumers are more open to trying new cocktails with an emphasis on flavour, including bitter, herbal, floral, tropical, citrus and smoked. There is also an increasing demand for non-alcoholic cocktails that are made with fresh ingredients and are full of flavour.
Funkin managing director Andrew King said: “The Funkin Innovation Forum is another way for us to stay connected with bartenders by giving them the opportunity to sample and feedback on our latest innovations. Our products are made by bartenders for bartenders and we value their opinion.
“Funkin Pro Spiced Syrup is a great example of a product we collaborated with bartenders on. This was first introduced at last year’s forum and after taking feedback on board we now have a premium finished product that fills a clear gap in the on-trade market.”
Funkin single-batch syrups are sweetened with pure cane sugar and are crafted from high-quality natural ingredients, grown and harvested in season to give full flavour and rich colour. The single-batch range now includes, Rhubarb, Ginger, Earl Grey and Spiced.
5ml Cinnamon vodka
25ml Funkin Pure Pour Lemon
25ml Funkin Pro Spiced Syrup
50ml Cloudy Apple Juice
Shake ingredients, strain into highball. Garnish with a lemon twist and mint sprig.
