The makers of Gallo wines have added a new expression for their E&J Brandy from California, promoted for creating seasonal mulled drinks.
E&J Apple combines the smooth taste of the brandy with apple liqueur, offering a sweet, crisp, juicy apple flavour with a hint of vanilla, caramel and citrus. It has ABV of 35%.
E&J Apple can be served on the rocks, neat or with mixers such as cranberry juice and ginger beer. Alternatively, E&J Apple can be used to create a mulled wine.
Introduced globally in 1975, E&J Brandy is charcoal filtered and triple filtered before being aged for at least two years in American white oak barrels.
Spiced E&J Apple Mulled Wine
100ml E&J Apple
75cl Gallo Family Vineyards Summer Red
Half a cup of sugar
2 Star anise
2 Cinnamon sticks
4 Strips Lemon zest
Mix the red wine, brandy, sugar, cloves, lemon zest, cinnamon sticks, and star anise together in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over high heat while covered. Remove from heat and rest for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve before serving. Garnish with freshly sliced apple and lemon zest.
