Irn Bro Gin71 Bar

Gin71 bar in Glasgow has been named the winner in a competition run by Brockmans Gin for World Gin Day.

The bar created a cocktail called Irn Bro (pictured), which was a twist on a Negroni with equal measures of gin, Aperol and Rinquinquin, garnished with a grapefruit twist and blackberry.

It was one of five “Brocktails” selected for a shortlist out of entries from bars in France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, the UK and the USA.

The public voted on their favourites via a page on Facebook on June 11, World Gin Day. Gin71 gained 2,011 of the 4,768 votes.

The other four finalists were cocktails from The Walrus Room and Reverend JW Simpson in London, The Churchill in Manhattan in New York City, and La Habanera in Madrid.

Bob Fowkes, co-founder and marketing director of Brockmans Gin, said: “Many of the entries from all over the world were simply brilliant and the five shortlisted cocktails were all exceptional. We thank them for entering and congratulate Gin Bar 71 and their cocktail Irn Bro – a truly wonderful twist on a classic.”

Brockmans worked with the bartenders at Pleased To Meet You (PTMY) in Newcastle upon Tyne to create the five shortlisted recipes on World Gin Day. Bob added: “We thank PTMY’s team for helping to make this contest so successful and being such a perfect host venue.”
