Bartenders are being called on to demonstrate their skills at making cocktails with sherry in a new competition for Harveys.
Distributor Maxxium UK is running the Harveys Sherry Remix competition to find cocktails that are contemporary and encourage today’s UK consumer to discover sherry in an exciting new way.
Three finalists will be chosen to visit Jerez, the home of the brand and sherry generally, to compete for a cash prize in September. They will also receive a guided tour of the vineyards and bodegas, hosted by Harveys brand ambassador Maria Eugenia Herrera.
As well as coming up with a name that will appeal to modern consumers, entrants will need to supply an image as well as their inspiration for the cocktail and why they feel consumers would want to order it.
Recipes must include at least 50ml of Harveys and can include up to two homemade ingredients. The cocktails can feature other fortified wines and spirits, but Harveys must be the main ingredient.
The Harveys portfolio includes Harveys Fino, Signature by Harveys, Harveys Amontillado Sherry and Harveys Bristol Cream in addition to the Very Old Rare Sherry range (VORS), including Harveys Fine Old Amontillado, Harveys Palo Cortado, Harveys Rich Old Oloroso and Harveys Pedro Ximénez.

Cocktails will be reviewed by a panel of judges led by Amanda Humphrey, manager for Maxxium UK’s Mixxit training and drinks development team, who will score on balance, flavour and overall presentation.
Semi-finalists can expect a visit to their bar by a Mixxit manager or Maxxium UK business development manager who will taste the cocktail. Scores will be combined to select the three finalists.
It follows the success of the Harveys Cobbler Challenge last year to find creative new recipes based on a classic Cobbler.
Maxxium UK’s marketing controller for Harveys, Janice McIntosh, said: “We had great success with our cocktail competition last year, and this year we are increasing the stakes with the final taking place at the home of Harveys in Jerez, Spain.
