Henry Westons brings back mulled cider for winter

Premium cider brand Henry Westons is relaunching its ready-to-drink mulled cider that needs only warming up before serving.

Available from now until January, Henry Westons Mulled Cider is a classic rich English cider blended with cinnamon and mulled spices, with an ABV of 4%.

It comes in a 20-litre bag-in-box format ready for heating. Like the rest of the Henry Westons range of ciders, it has been given a new look, with brighter and simpler packaging. The pump clip for the product has also been refreshed to bring it in line with the rest of the range.

Matthew Langley, senior brand manager for Henry Westons, said: “The mulled cider category has seen huge growth over the last couple of years, and according to on-trade specialist CGA Strategy, mulled cider sales in some outlets equalled those of the more established mulled wine, with rate of sale peaking at 45 serves per outlet per week during cold periods.

Westons Cider first launched Mulled Cider in the on-trade in 2012, with volumes growing by over 200% due to consumer demand for the product.

Matthew added: “We conducted some research that demonstrated consumer salience of the Henry Westons brand and made the decision to re-launch as Henry Westons Mulled Cider to continue to drive the growth of this exciting proposition.

“Early indications are that volumes this year could easily double that of last year with on-trade interest already being incredibly positive.

“According to Mintel data, 56% of consumer will drink cider at least once a month throughout the winter, which shows that licensees need to ensure they have a strong range of seasonal ciders such as Mulled Cider, to respond to consumer demand.”

Henry Westons is one of H Westons & Sons’ heritage brands alongside Stowford Press, Wyld Wood Organic Cider and Old Rosie. The company is now run by the fifth generation of the Weston family, which has been producing traditional English cider in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle since 1880.
