Hot chicken and dive bar Louie’s has opened in Hoxton Square, and the focus is on local east London talent.
Louie’s founder Tom Brooke has partnered with music director Itchy Rich to bring some of the most well-respected names in dance music to the venue.
Joining Rich is Leopard’s Lunch, the east London-based artist and designer, who has created the interiors, characterised by “bright, modern mural designs which encompass the playful personality of the dive bar”.
A selection of signature Nashville fried chicken, coated in buttermilk and seasoned with paprika, garlic and brown sugar and fried in cayenne-infused hot oil, will be available.
Guests can create their own personal serve at Louie’s, from the cut of the chicken right through to the level of spice desired. This ranges from the Mellow to the Afterburner, which warns to “strap yourself in”.
The hot-fried chicken is served with traditional Southern sides, including slaw and pickles, while sweeter options come in the form of a traditional Southern-style homemade pie of the day.
Aside from virgin and “boozy” milkshakes, Louie’s also offers a range of cocktails and punch bowls. Highlights include a classic Rum Punch, a nostalgic Thai bucket with Mekong Thai Whiskey, Red Bull concentrate, topped with Coca-Cola, and a traditional Southern Lynchburg Lemonade, combining Bulleit Bourbon, Cointreau and house lemonade.
