Inception Group is to build on the success of its cocktail bar Mr Fogg’s in London’s Mayfair with a new outing for the brand in Covent Garden.
It has taken over the Grade II-listed, three-storey site of the Angel & Crown in St Martin’s Lane – formerly a gastropub operated by ETM Group – and will refurbish it for launching as Fogg’s Tavern.
The property was secured on behalf of Inception Group by leisure specialist Davis Coffer Lyons. Kate Taylor, associate director at Davis Coffer Lyons, said: “We’ve seen a surge of interest from operators in Covent Garden as it continues to thrive as a destination for eating, drinking, shopping and entertainment.
“This, coupled with the scarcity of A4 opportunities of this nature, gave rise to an almost unprecedented level of interest in the Angel & Crown.
“Fogg’s Tavern was felt to be the perfect complement to its Theatreland location and an exciting addition to St Martin’s Lane.”
Inception Group opened Mr Fogg’s (pictured) nearly two years ago, taking inspiration from Phileas Fogg, the adventurer in Jules Verne’s classic Around the World in Eighty Days.
Co-founder Charlie Gilkes said: “Inception Group are thrilled to have secured this site against so much competition. We are very excited about bringing our Mr Fogg’s brand to this prime part of central London.”
The company operates other bars and clubs around London including Bunga Bunga, Barts, Maggie’s, Cocobananas and Beaver Lodge.
In March, it is due to open its latest venue, Cahoots, in the former premises of its Disco London club in Kingly Court, Soho. It will be an underground bar inspired by life in London in the 1940s after World War Two.
