The Inception Group has unveiled plans for a new nightclub that aims to bring the spirit of Latin American beach parties to London.
Cocobananas will open this summer next door to the company’s Italian-inspired bar and restaurant, Bunga Bunga, in Howie Street, Battersea in south London.
Set over two floors, the nightclub will be a celebration of all things Brazilian, with décor evoking the vibrant beach shacks found throughout the country.
Design features will include vintage surfboards, palm trees, distressed plantation shutters, and a reproduction of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue. Upstairs will be the Caipirinha bar offering a holiday soundtrack and atmosphere.
The Inception Group’s founders Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling will open Cocobananas in time for the World Cup in Brazil which kicks off in June. Guests will be able to enjoy some of the late-night football matches before hitting the dance floor.
Nightly live DJ sets will warm up with bossa nova and then blend Brazilian electronica and Latin house with pure pop and beach party tunes as the tempo rises.
There will also be dance routines and performances including capoeira dancers, girls from Ipanema and champagne bossa novas.
Men in surf shorts and havaianas and women in sarongs and bikinis will serve Brazil’s national drink, cachaça, in a range of cocktails featuring exotic fruits such as papaya, guava, star fruit, watermelon, mango and passion fruit.
The club will also serve fruity Caipirinha ice pops and Brazilian street food. Signature sharing drinks will come in vessels modelled on a Brazilian beach hut, coconuts, surfboard shot paddles and the lower body of a Brazilian beauty sporting one of the country’s famous string bikinis.
Cocobananas will open Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30pm to 2.30am.
The Inception Group also owns and operates Chelsea speakeasy Barts, 80s-themed nightclub Maggie’s, Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair, and Disco, inspired by 1970s Manhattan disco. This summer it will launch Beaver Lodge, a cabin bar and dance saloon based on the winter cowboy log cabins of Wyoming.
