Frizzenti to create series of bars
Leading wine brand Frizzenti is creating a series of sparkling wine and prosecco bars that will be set up in shopping and leisure complexes and stations around the country. It is working with design solutions company Isomi furniture and interior designer Paul Crofts to create bars with elegant Italian styling combined with an edgy and modern structure.

Kronenbourg celebrates 350 years
A special-edition bottle has been unveiled for Kronenbourg 1664 as part of the 350th anniversary of the beer’s original brewery. It has been updated to showcase the heritage and brewing expertise behind the brand with a colour split label of silver and the classic Kronenbourg 1664 blue, carrying the text “Celebrating 350 years of brewing excellence”.

Bulldog Gin appoints UK ambassador
Bartender Bianca Hepworth (pictured) has been appointed UK brand ambassador for super-premium Bulldog London Dry Gin to promote the brand and deliver training. She will combine her new role with working at The Proud Archivist bar, restaurant and gallery in east London which she joined after two years at Hoxley & Porter bar in north London.

New bars planned for London hotel
Two new bars are being created at five-star hotel The Beaumont which opens in London’s Mayfair in the autumn. It is being developed by property group Grosvenor and leading restaurateurs Jeremy King and Chris Corbin, working with hospitality design specialist Richmond International. There will be a destination bar, The American Bar, alongside The Colony Grill Room while The Cub Room will be a bar and lounge exclusively for hotel guests.

Stolichnaya partners Revolution bars on serve
Revolution bars have formed a partnership with premium vodka Stolichnaya as part of the brand’s campaign to champion the signature Stoli Lemonade serve. A summer-long campaign at 51 Revolution bars sees Stolichnaya and lemonade promoted as part of a bespoke menu. Point-of-sale items, including branded mason jars, infusion stations and lemonade carts, have also been introduced to key on-trade accounts around the UK.

Wemyss releases new whisky parcel
Boutique spirits company Wemyss Malts has released a new parcel of single-cask Scotch whiskies, including its first-ever single-grain single-cask whisky. Each cask is a celebration of the different Scotch whisky regions and is named after the whisky’s natural taste and aroma.

Cucumber soft drink adds variant
A minty new flavour variant is to be launched this month in the on-trade for Qcumber, the soft drink made with natural cucumber. Qcumber with Mint is made with garden mint and comes in 330ml glass bottles.

Second batch released of Mauritian rum
The Indian Ocean Company has released a second batch of Penny Blue XO Rum, a single-estate Mauritian rum blending spirit matured in former cognac, whisky and bourbon barrels. After the success of the first batch last year, 7,000 bottles will be available in the US, Europe and Mauritius, with UK distribution through Berry Bros & Rudd.

UK bars in finals of hotel design awards
Bars at top London hotels have been announced as finalists in the European Hotel Design Awards. Ham Yard Hotel is up for both best bar and best restaurant while Scarfe’s Bar at Rosewood London is a finalist for best bar design. The London Edition hotel is up for best restaurant for Berners Tavern and The Punch Room and for best interior design of lobby, lounge and public areas. The Rosebery at Mandarin Oriental London and Urban Meadow at Doubletree by Hilton Hyde Park are finalists for best interior design for a café-bar or all-day dining space.

Mobile bar business debuts with jelly beans
A new mobile bar business makes its debut this month when Bar on a Bike serves up quirky cocktails with jelly beans at Feast festival in Battersea, south London. The vintage tricycle has been “upcycled” into a bar by husband-and-wife team Simon and Pam Badham. At Feast from August 15 to 17, they will serve summer drinks such as a Vimto Mojito accompanied by jelly beans from Jelly Belly UK.

Hilton revamps London hotel bar
The bar at the Hilton London Tower Bridge hotel is undergoing a £500,000 refurbishment for relaunch as TwoRuba Bar in September. The former Ruba Bar will have Regency-inspired décor coupled with contemporary metal drapery materials, aiming to create the exclusive feel of a members’ club. The drinks menu will draw inspiration from the area and its history of gin-making.

Startenders celebrate bar’s birthday
London bar Casita is celebrating its eighth birthday with guest appearances by leading bartenders. Starting with a press party last night (August 6), it will have “startenders” serving cocktails made with Ocho tequila (Spanish for “eight”), rotating serves each hour, for eight hours from 3pm to 11pm for eight consecutive days.

Seafood picked to match champagne
A new bar is being launched at a London restaurant where guests order champagne and are then served seafood to complement their choice. The twist on ordering wine to match food has been developed by seafood restaurant Randall & Aubin in Soho, London.

Growth at leased and tenanted pubco
Enterprise Inns, the leased and tenanted pub company, has reported 1.3% growth in like-for-like net income in its total estate for the 44 weeks to August 2. In a trading statement today, it highlighted that growth in its third quarter was particularly encouraging, with like-for-like net income up 2.1%, boosted by on-going operational initiatives and the FIFA World Cup in June. The first five weeks of its fourth quarter have produced trading in line with expectations, resulting in like-for-like net income growth of 1.5% for the first 18 weeks of the second half of its financial year.

CGA reports growth in UK foodservice
The foodservice market in the UK has grown by 2.7% over the past year to be worth about £64billion a year, according to research group CGA. It reports that around 43% of people in the UK now go out to eat at least once a week. In London, the figure rises to 59%. Consumers visit an average of more than seven different food concepts every six months which is reflected in much greater experimentation in drinking habits and the rise of craft and premium beer and spirits over standard brands.

New appointments at Innis & Gunn
Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn has expanded its national sales force to eight, with the appointment of Rachel Mackay as business development manager for London and the South and Mark Hyson as field sales executive for Scotland East. Rachel was previously at Glasgow’s West Brewery and Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands while Mark worked in hospitality, including units manager for The Sitting Room and Tolbooth Tavern in Edinburgh.

New CEO appointed at training company
Frazer Grant, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, has been appointed chief executive at ABV Training. He has been acting CEO at the business for the last year since founder David Hawbrook suffered a stroke. David passed away four months ago.

Scottish gin unveils new label look
Darnley’s View Gin has been given an elegant new label to match its Spiced Gin stable-mate. The two gins are now both presented with a two-part label printed on craft paper featuring the crest of the Wemyss family who launched the gin four years ago. William Wemyss, managing director of brand owner Wemyss Malts, said it was “designed to accentuate the craft feel of our range”.
