UK bars triumph at global Spirited Awards
Bars and bartenders from the UK have been named as among the best in the world at the global Spirited Awards at the Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans. The Artesian (pictured) at the Langham London took home the titles of world’s best bar, world’s best international hotel bar and world’s best international bar team as well as the award for world’s best bartender for Simone Caporale. White Lyan in London was named the world’s best new international cocktail bar and The Bon Vivant in Edinburgh was the world’s best international restaurant bar.

I@G invests in revamp of Edinburgh bars
Pub and bar operator I@G Events is refurbishing two of its sites in Edinburgh in partnership with Star Pubs & Bars. Work has begun on revamping The Spider’s Web into a bar specialising in gin called The Jolly Botanist and converting The Volunteer Arms into a beer and whisky destination called The Cask & Still. They are investing £500,000 on The Jolly Botanist and £70,000 to create The Cask & Still. I@G is headed by Iain Pert (pictured) and Gordon Gilhooley.

Del Monte launches cocktail mixers
Premium fruit juice brand Del Monte has launched a range of ready-made cocktail mixers for the licensed trade. Del Monte Occasions are being promoted for mixing with alcohol for easy-to-make cocktails or served without alcohol as a “mocktail”. The flavours are a Pineapple Mojito, a Mango Margarita, a Tomato Spicy Mary and a Cranberry Cosmopolitan.

Caorunn takes bartenders foraging
Bartenders are being taken foraging for ingredients for cocktails in a new initiative launched for Caorunn Gin. “Forage to Glass” events brief bartenders on sustainable foraging and foraging laws before they harvest a variety of herbs and other botanicals. Launched in Manchester, it is part of a global initiative to build awareness of the craft in the brand’s production and the importance of local, foraged ingredients.

Morgenrot brings Spanish cider to UK
Drinks importer Morgenrot has added Avalon Sidra to its broad portfolio of wines and beers after growing interest among British consumers in world ciders and Spanish food and drink. Produced by acclaimed cider maker Trabanco in Spain’s cider heartland of Asturias, Avalon is a premium dry cider which is carbonated and unfiltered and has an ABV of 5.5%.

Adnams creates premium triple sec liqueur
Suffolk brewer and distiller Adnams has added a new triple sec to its range of small-batch spirits and liqueurs. The limited-edition liqueur is made from bitter and sweet orange peel steeped in the company’s premium Longshore Vodka and then redistilled before bottling at 41% ABV.

New look for Schweppes in on-trade
Modern packaging has been unveiled for the Schweppes range of mixers in the licensed trade to increase stand-out behind the bar. The new look has been introduced by Coca-Cola Enterprises as part of continuing investment in the number-one mixer brand which is worth £138million and growing at 6.8%.
