Sailor Jerry seeks nation’s favourite bartender
A campaign has been launched by Sailor Jerry rum to encourage the public to show more appreciation for bar staff, aiming to get 100,000 signatures for a petition to bring to Parliament calling for a Bartender Appreciation Day. It has also launched a search for the Nation’s Favourite Bartender, voted on by the public and the trade. The winner will travel to the South By Southwest film and music festival in Austin, Texas, and get their own Sailor Jerry party in their bar.

New funds raised to grow Hush and Cabana
Bar and restaurant entrepreneur Jamie Barber has raised £5million for expanding his restaurant and bar groups Cabana and Hush. New equity has come from shareholders including Saracens owner Nigel Wray, French Connection founder Stephen Marks and Zoopla and Lovefilm founder Alex Chesterman, on top of a new debt facility with HSBC.

Top Edinburgh bar releases bottled cocktail
One of the world’s leading bars, Bramble in Edinburgh, has released one of its signature cocktails in bottles for sale through Maverick Drinks. The Affinity Cocktail is a combination of Scotch whisky and a blend of Byrrh aperitif and Noilly Prat vermouth. It comes in a 50cl bottle with ABV of 25.3%.

Station and airport bar operator to float
SSP Group, which operates bars, restaurants and cafés in stations and airports, aims to raise up to £500million by floating on the London Stock Exchange. Planning to issue shares in the coming weeks, the company intends to use the funds to support future growth and reduce debt. It operates 1,981 branded food and beverage outlets globally, such as The Beer House and Sloe Bar at stations in London and Newcastle upon Tyne.

Club stamps inspire Sourz new bottle
The Sourz range of liqueurs has undergone a major bottle redesign partly inspired by the hand stamps used in nightclubs. Each bottle has a colourful new skin tailored to each flavour across the six-strong line-up, with a dynamic, fruity “splash” pattern. It also uses specialist ink which glows under UV light, intended to increase stand-out behind the bar in bars and clubs.

New look for Blackthorn ciders
The Shepton Mallet Cider Mill, part of C&C Group, has unveiled a new look for its Blackthorn ciders that makes more of their West Country roots. The new identity has been developed to reflect the craft and quality of the Somerset cider as well as to express the history of the brand.

Monin celebrates World Cup with cocktail
Bars, pubs and clubs can score with themed drinks for the World Cup, according to syrup and puree brand Monin. Monin’s UK brand ambassador James Coston has devised a red and white cocktail called Hodgson’s Choice which combines Monin grenadine syrup, lemon juice and champagne, topped with a lemon and sugar foam and the garnish of a cherry with a stem.

New summer cocktails at Rev’s bar
Rev JW Simpson bar in London’s Fitzrovia continues its tradition of championing traditional and forgotten drink serves with its new summer menu. Cocktails include the Sunshine Garden Smash, made with vodka infused with lavender and thyme, mixed with crushed grapefruit, orange and lemon, churned with crushed ice and mint and finished with violet liqueur.

Deadline for Wild Turkey competition
The deadline is looming for bartenders to enter a UK cocktail competition launched for Gruppo Campari’s Wild Turkey bourbon. The winner, plus two runners-up, will win an exclusive trip to Kentucky to the new Wild Turkey visitor centre, including a special tasting, following by a night in New York City to check out the best bourbon bars. New name for leading Bristol bar
Leading Bristol bar Papaji’s has been reborn as Flipside Cocktail Club this week after a refresh of the interior. The award-winning Clifton venue, famous for both its cocktails and its teas, was opened five years ago by bartender Andy Dodd. Its general manager is award-winning bartender Jolene Cadwell.
