Drake & Morgan acquires two new sites
The seven-strong Drake & Morgan group of bars has acquired two new sites in central London. It has taken on 6,000 square feet in British Land’s office and residential development Regent’s Place on Marylebone Road, due to open late 2014. The other venue, opening early 2015, will be in the new AXA Real Estate development on St Pancras Square at King’s Cross.

Emporia brings Russian “bread wine” to UK
A Russian style of grain-based vodka spirit known as “bread wine”, which has not been available for more than 120 years, is being introduced to the UK by Emporia Brands. Made in Poland, Polugar is triple-distilled in traditional copper pot stills which have been banned in Russia since 1895. The range comprises three single-grain distillates and four infusions.

Harveys issues Sherry Cobbler twist challenge
Bartenders are being challenged to come up with a twist on a classic Sherry Cobbler for a chance to win a trip to Jerez in southern Spain. The competition is being run by drinks company Maxxium UK for its sherry brand Harveys, allowing contenders to use any of the sherries from its portfolio.

TCG links with DVD film release
Managed pub and bar group TCG has formed a partnership with promotions specialist Play 7 which will see a two-for-one offer on cocktails included in the first 200,000 DVD copies of British film Cuban Fury. It features in a leaflet that can be redeemed when ordering selected cocktails at TCG venues such as Henry’s Cafe Bars.

Cocktail challenge launched by Tarquin’s Gin
A cocktail competition is to be launched for Tarquin’s Gin challenging bartenders to devise a cocktail based on just its name. The name of the cocktail is to be announced at the Imbibe Live! show in London this week, calling on bartenders to create the recipe using Tarquin’s Gin or Cornish Pastis, or both, which are made at Cornwall’s Southwestern Distillery.

Keith Lemon stars in Hooch promotion
Global Brands has introduced a limited-edition bottle featuring comedy character Keith Lemon to build on their TV advertising campaign “bringing ‘OOOCH’ to the nation”. Consumers can enter a competition to win “Keith Lemon’s Dream Holiday” to “H’orange County” – Orange County in California, home to Universal Studios.

J2O brings back limited edition for summer
Britvic Soft Drinks is bringing back its summer limited-edition flavour, J2O Pear Gold, made with a blend of pear and guava. It will be supported by a heavyweight marketing campaign including nationwide print and outdoor advertising.

Glenfiddich releases 26-year-old whisky
A whisky matured for at least 26 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks is the latest expression to be unveiled from Glenfiddich. The Glenfiddich Excellence 26 Year Old is the first single malt from the Speyside distiller to use former bourbon casks throughout the entire maturation process.

New sales manager for Hogan’s
Warwickshire cider maker Hogan’s Cider has appointed Jerry Green as sales manager to further expand Hogan’s presence in its Midlands heartland. He spent 18 years as a publican running everything from back-street alehouses to gastropubs and then seven years at Molson Coors in roles from account management to regional business development.

Heineken website celebrates beer
Heineken UK has unveiled a new website that showcases the traditions of brewing and the “beauty, simplicity and naturalness” of beer. Using high-tech graphics, the microsite is at within the Heineken UK corporate website.

Top comedian to host BBPA dinner
The British Beer & Pub Association has announced that writer, presenter, comedian and actor Sandi Toksvig will host the BBPA Annual Dinner on October 9. Returning to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel, this year’s programme will see a focus on the industry’s historic and contemporary advertising.

New chairman for online wholesaler
Ooberstock, the UK online drinks wholesale business, has appointed a new chairman: Stephen Crawley, most recently managing director at The Caledonian Brewing Company. Starting on July 1, he will help lead on Ooberstock’s ambitious strategic business plan to drive on-trade sales and distribution, working closely with owner Steve Brogan.

TV campaign for Old Jamaica ginger beer

Cott Beverages is set to upgrade Old Jamaica Ginger Beer’s marketing campaign this summer with a new television campaign launching in the UK in July. Representing Old Jamaica’s largest-ever media spend, the ad will run across a number of high-profile channels, including Channel 4, ITV Digital, 4OD, Five, Five Digital and UKTV. It will be supported by PR, social media and retailer kits.

Leicester launch for Red Hot World Buffet
Red Hot World Buffet is due to officially launch its site in Leicester today (June 30) after a £2million refurbishment. Created in a former Litten Tree, it id spread across 16,000 square feet over two floors with 420 covers. It will serve hundreds of different dishes from eight cooking stations and have a full bar fronting onto the High Street.

Music tour for Magners Original
Magners is set to embark on an eight-date tour featuring top musicians and performers such as Model Aeroplanes for the Magners Original Sessions. The events will mainly pop up in bars and clubs such as the Vibe Bar in London on July 26. Other venues will include Record Factory in Glasgow, The Custard Factory in Birmingham, The Three Sisters in Edinburgh and Hennessey’s Bar in Birmingham. It will be supported by social media and other marketing activity including creative collateral in participating venues.

Birra Moretti offers free Italian snack
A campaign is being run for Italian beer Birra Moretti in the on-trade, offering consumers a free pack of Piccolo’s Little Breadsticks from Italian snack supplier Crosta & Mollica with every purchase of the beer. Running all summer, it will see 500 promotional kits delivered to pubs and bars across the UK.
