Arc announces Yorkshire bar plans
Arc Inspirations has announced plans to open a new bar in Leeds as well as a third site for its bar concept The Pit in Harrogate. It is set to open The Pit in the North Yorkshire town in June, following the success of the first two in Merrion Street in Leeds city centre and Chapel Allerton (pictured) in north Leeds. In August, Arc Inspirations will unveil a new concept called Mannahatta in Leeds city centre, inspired by “industrial glamour” and the bars and restaurants of New York.

Cîroc adds new flavour in UK
Diageo is expanding the range of flavours for its super-premium vodka Cîroc in the UK with the launch of Cîroc Peach. Made with an infusion of golden peach and natural fruit essences, it will be introduced in March and follows the successful launch of Cîroc Red Berry and Cîroc Coconut in the UK last year.

Jim Beam adds small-batch bourbon
The range of Jim Beam bourbons in the UK is to be expanded in the UK with the launch of the small-batch Jim Beam Signature Craft 12-Year. The ultra-premium expression, crafted by seventh-generation Beam master distiller Fred Noe, is bottled at 43% ABV and is perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks. Each bottle bears the signature of James B Beam – a tradition that has been in place since the repeal of Prohibition in the US as a seal of a bourbon’s authenticity.

New owners for London Cocktail Week
The annual London Cocktail Week has been sold to a new stand-alone business backed by leading supplier Speciality Drinks. The new venture, called ABV Global, will continue to run the cocktail festival, which began in 2010 and is held every October, as well as the new London Wine Week, launching in June, and the new Hong Kong Cocktail Week.

New-look bottle for Foster’s Gold
A new look has been unveiled by Heineken for bottled beer Foster’s Gold to give it more stand-out in the back-bar fridge and increase on-trade sales. Exclusively available to on-trade customers from March, the new bottle sees the addition of a belly-band in Foster’s signature blue. It will be supported by new point-of sale materials from bar mats to posters and staff T-shirts, continuing with the strapline “Pure Gold”.

World Cup bottle unveiled by Budweiser
A new limited-edition bottle is to be launched for Budweiser to tie in with the brand’s sponsorship of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Featuring the World Cup trophy, the 473ml aluminium bottle will be introduced simultaneously in the UK and over 40 other countries. It also includes a limited-edition pint glass and an on-trade promotion.

Bartenders invited to Bacardi events
Bacardi is holding events for bartenders and bar owners around the country to herald the start of a new global campaign. Held in Glasgow, Manchester and London, the events will provide a chance to preview the brand’s new activities as well as sample the limited-edition 150th Anniversary blend and enjoy live music and cocktails.

Luminar invests half a million in club
The Luminar Group has embarked on a £500,000 refurbishment of Batchwood Hall, the nightclub in an 18th-century mansion in St Albans in Hertfordshire. The 1,380-capacity venue closed this month for a three-month investment that will transform the building into a luxury club with three dance rooms, a stylish bar and pre-bookable VIP booths.

Eclectic updates on Derby tiki bar
Eclectic Bar Group has announced details of its latest Lola Lo tiki bar which is due to open in Derby in April. Created in the former site of Coyote Wild in Victoria Street, the 800-capacity bar will cover the ground and first floors, featuring two bars, an Island Grill diner, a spacious dance floor and an upstairs tropical garden. Designed by tiki specialists Cheeky Tiki, it will be Eclectic’s 20th site and its 10th Lola Lo.

Innis & Gunn releases bartender’s beer
Brewer Innis & Gunn has released its first smoked beer, developed in collaboration with the head bartender of The Hind’s Head in Bray. David Ashton-Hyde came up with the idea for the limited edition Smokin’ Gunn in the inaugural Innis & Gunn Bartender’s Choice competition last year.

First-ever TV ads for Jägermeister
The first-ever TV advertising campaign for Jägermeister is set to be launched in the UK, breaking during England’s friendly football match against Denmark on March 5. It will feature the tagline, “It Runs Deep”, and the Jägermeister perfect serve – an ice-cold shot. The TV ad will run for eight weeks across key channel networks, including Sky Sports, Channel 4, Sky 1 and 2 and Sky Atlantic while a nationwide cinema campaign will screen exclusively during new film, 300: The Rise of an Empire. Shot in Iceland, the short film follows a real group of male friends who are professional surfers.

New rugby campaign promotes ‘proper cider’
Cider brand Kingstone Press has announced increased investment in rugby league through continued sponsorship of the Championships for a second season, broadening its reach into the National Conference League. It links with a new “Proper Cider” campaign, tapping into consumer demand for authenticity in the cider market. Intended to help raise awareness of both Kingstone Press and its partnership with rugby league, the new initiative will be supported by a significant advertising, PR and social media campaign running throughout the season.

Expansion project begins for Fyne Ales
Argyllshire’s Fyne Ales has turned the first soil on a £2million expansion of its brewery that will meet growing demand for the company’s range of craft beers. It is co-funded by the Highlands and Island Enterprise scheme, a Food Processing, Marketing & Co-operation Scheme (FPMC) grant from the Scottish Government and a £1million loan from Bank of Scotland supported by the Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme as well as Asset Finance. The expansion is expected to see Fyne Ales’ current turnover of £1.6million double by 2015 and then increase to over £5million in the following two years.

Go-ahead for new Skye whisky distillery
A new malt whisky distillery has been announced for the Isle of Skye, created within a listed early 19th-century farm-steading at Torabhaig on the island’s south-east coast. Developed by Mossburn Distillers, the Torabhaig Distillery will cost more than £5million. Planning consent has been granted and construction work is expected to begin in the early summer. It is hoped that the first new spirit will flow by the end of 2015.

CAMRA names best winter beer
Dunham Porter, a 5.2% ABV ale brewed by Dunham Massey Brewery in Altrincham, Manchester, has been crowned CAMRA’s Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2014 by a panel of judges at the National Winter Ales Festival in Derby. The beer is described as a classic old-style English porter, creamy, full-bodied and packed with flavour. It is the second year a porter has won the overall Champion Winter Beer of Britain.

Renaissance Pubs to open boutique hotel
Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox of Renaissance Pubs are to open their first boutique hotel this spring above The Tommyfield in Kennington, south London. The Tommyfield Hotel Rooms will be spread over two upper floors of the historic pub. Renaissance Pubs also plans refurbishments this spring of the gardens of The Stonhouse in Clapham and The Avalon in Balham.

TCG bars step up charity fund-raising
Managed pub and bar group TCG is pledging to raise £100,000 for Cancer Research UK by the end of August after hitting its initial target of £70,000. The fundraising drive started in February last year, involving pub, bar and head office teams. Events included music festivals, quiz nights and gala evenings as well as bucket collections on high-footfall days.

Pubco organises roadshows for licensees
Pub company Enterprise is to hold six roadshows around the country for its lessees and tenants to meet suppliers and source ideas for their businesses. Taking place from March 20 to April 15, the programme is timed to take place ahead of the key trading periods of Easter, the spring bank holidays and the World Cup. Over 125 suppliers will be attending each show, including drinks suppliers such as Heineken, Molson Coors, Carlsberg and Crown Cellars and gaming, food and other suppliers such as Brakes, Sky and Casio.
