Intertain to open new Walkabout bar in Essex

Walkabout Bournemouth

Intertain has taken over a JD Wetherspoon pub in Chelmsford in Essex with plans to turn it into a Walkabout.

It has exchanged contracts on the lease for the site of The Thomas Mildmay, a Lloyd’s No 1 pub opened by JD Wetherspoon 15 years ago, in Springfield Road in the city centre.

Once contracts are completed on the premises, work will start immediately on transforming it into Intertain’s 25th Walkabout bar. It will be in line with the new style of Walkabout, last seen in the refurbishment of its Bournemouth site in May (pictured).

John Leslie, CEO of Intertain, said: “This new site presents a fantastic opportunity for us. Situated overlooking the river in an excellent location in busy Chelmsford, the bar itself offers a large and adaptable space ideally suited to a new-style Walkabout.

“After we have completed the building work, we will be able to offer excellent live sport, zoned VIP areas, brilliant party nights and a great daytime food offer. We are looking forward to building our brand in this great city.”
