Intertain transforms flagship Walkabout in Birmingham

Walkabout Birmingham

One of the original and most high-profile Walkabout bars has undergone a major refurbishment, transforming it both inside and out.

Operator Intertain has spent £450,000 on the latest revamp of the venue in Broad Street in Birmingham which dates back to the 1990s. It is now fully representative of the latest evolution of the Walkabout brand, including more focus on daytime dining.

On the outside, the venue has shed its characteristic gold and green external décor. Inside, the brand’s successful Reef Bar design has been installed, with a wall of screens showing undersea footage, as well as booths and VIP areas for parties, meals, club nights and live music.

A special “pie shack” serving award-winning Pieminister pies has also been incorporated as part of the project, ideal for keeping sports fans fed on match days.

Intertain chief executive John Leslie said: “Walkabout has been on a journey in the last year, with new venues launching as well as a number of refurbishments taking place. The refurbishment of Walkabout on Broad Street indicates that this investment in the brand is set to continue in 2016 and beyond.

“Walkabout on Broad Street is well-known for its legendary party nights and match-day atmosphere. The work that has taken place will enhance this experience, but also put Walkabout on the map for lunch or a coffee, as well as early evening drinks and more.”
