An intimate new space has been created within speakeasy-style Opium Cocktail and Dim Sum Parlour in London’s Chinatown, with cocktails inspired by China’s peony flower.
The bar, called Peony, has space for up to 25 people, tucked away inside the larger venue which opened two years ago. It is hosted by bartender Rasa Gaidelyte (pictured below) who has created its unique drinks menu.
She has developed cocktails, including sharing drinks, that are inspired by the peony, which is held sacred in Chinese culture and represents desire and femininity.
The bar, which also offers dim sum, is similarly inspired by the peony in its concept. With its luxurious gloss, the design is described as “West End glamour to Opium’s Shoreditch chic”.
Opium was opened two years ago by restaurateur Eric Yu with leading bartender Dré Masso. With interiors by Kai Design and Office Sian, it covers three floors, hidden behind a jade door on Gerrard Street.
