A leading Irish gin brand is breaking into the British market, including strawberry and tea-infused expressions.
Launched three years ago by master distiller and whisky expert Peter Mulryan, Blackwater combines the fresh waters of West Waterford with imported spices and other botanicals.
The classic Blackwater No 5 is a London dry gin which combines juniper with coriander, warm cinnamon, zesty lemon and eight other botanicals. It was the only Irish gin to be awarded Gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) in 2017.
The Strawberry Gin infuses local Wexford strawberries, producing a pink gin with no added sugar or sweeteners. Blackwater’s spicy Barry’s Tea gin combines loose-leaf Classic Blend from Irish tea producer Barry’s with cardamom, cinnamon and lemon, resulting in a refreshing “G&Tea”.
Completing the quartet is Blackwater Juniper. Aged in wooded casks from juniper trees and combining sweeter roots of liquorice with the same botanicals as No 5, it has a complex aroma and a long finish.

“The time is right for us to now break into the British market where we are seeing strong, consistent growth in this spirit. To add a further dimension with our Irish gin will enhance the consumer offer in both the on-trade leisure sector and the off-trade.
