Italian bartender becomes Martini ambassador for northern Europe

An Italian bartender based in London has been appointed ambassador for Martini vermouth and sparkling wine covering northern Europe including the UK.

Davide Zanardo (pictured), formerly at Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone, London, will work on the brand across the region together with the network of local ambassadors from brand owner Bacardi on a programme of events and activations celebrating the modern aperitivo.

Marc Plumridge, advocacy director for northern Europe at Bacardi, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Davide to the northern Europe brand ambassador team to represent Martini. He brings extensive on-trade experience, commercial understanding of operations and huge creativity and dedication – as well as an Italian heritage.”

Martini is working on several trade activations in Europe this year to build on the vermouth’s position as a leading part of the modern aperitivo renaissance.

The Martini Caffè Torino pop-ups are appearing around several cities and taking centre stage at this year’s European trade show Bar Convent Berlin in October.

Activities put the spotlight on the premium Martini Riserva Speciale vermouths, with some “exciting announcements” promised in the pipeline for the Martini Riserva Speciale range.

Davide comes from north-eastern Italy, an area synonymous with the aperitivo way of life, and began his career in 2007 as a bartender in one of the region’s most renowned cocktail bars. He moved to Sydney in 2010 where he became group bar manager for the Eat Drink Manly Group alongside co-owner Kieran Bailey, helping to open three new venues.

Davide moved to London in 2013 where he became bar operations manager at Chiltern Firehouse. He also became part of the “Spirit of Italy” team for the Tales of the Cocktail festival that takes place in New Orleans every July.

Davide said: “I feel like I have been close to Martini for my entire life, growing up in an area famous for the aperitivo way of living. It feels completely right for me to be joining one of the most recognisable Italian brands in the world and one that I have always had a very strong affinity with.

“I am hugely excited to be taking a central role in a very vibrant up-coming programme of events across northern Europe from this summer onwards, where I look forward to serving some beautiful Martini aperitivo drinks.”
