Italian craft beer expands in on-trade with Carluccio’s

Birra Del Borgo

Distribution of Italian craft beers Birra Del Borgo in the UK on-trade has gained a boost with a listing across all 88 sites of restaurant group Carluccio’s.

The first two are its flagship beer, Reale, and the golden ale, Cortigiana. Reale is an IPA at 6.4% ABV with notes of grapefruit and freshly ground white pepper and a balanced yet bitter finish. Cortigiana at 5% ABV is softer with a floral citrus aroma and honey-like malt backbone.

It is the first UK chain to stock the Italian craft beer which is imported by Atlas Brands.

Michael Stocks, international operations manager at Carluccio’s, said: “We’re always looking to offer authentic Italian products and introduce new food and drinks to our customers. With the rise of Italian craft beers, we thought now was an ideal time.

“We chose Birra Del Borgo as one of the pioneers of the Italian craft beer scene and selected two very versatile beers – perfect as an aperitivo – yet with enough structure to pair perfectly with our antipasti dishes or lighter mains.”

Andreas Fält, co-owner of Atlas Brands, added: “Italian craft beer has made significant inroads into the UK and US markets in recent years and Italy is acknowledged as one of the key up-and-coming beer-brewing nations.

“Birra Del Borgo and head brewer Leonardo Di Vicenzo are leading lights of the Italian scene and we’re over the moon that their beers will be available to the patrons of Carluccios.”

Birra Del Borgo comes from Borgorose on the border between the Lazio and Abruzzo regions of Italy. Other beers in the Atlas Brands portfolio include Birrificio Italiano, Toccalmatto and Brewfist in Italy and Edge Brewing in Spain.
