Italian wine café group expands with Nottingham bar

Italian wine café group Veeno has opened a new site in Nottingham as its owners seek to expand beyond their northern base.

Nino Caruso and Andrea Zecchino unveiled their new bar in Middle Pavement in Nottingham’s Lace Market area last night, creating 15 jobs.

Veeno specialises in good-quality wines and spuntini – platters of meat and cheese imported from Italian producers, served in the Italian style of aperitivo snacks.

It is their fifth venue in less than two years after they opened their first in Manchester off Albert Square followed by Leeds, York and Liverpool (pictured).

Its wines come from the family vineyard back in Sicily where Nino’s great‐grandfather Antonio planted the first vines in the 19th century. The group was a finalist for best wine list in the English Italian Awards.

Nino said: “We’re delighted to be introducing the concept of aperitivo to Nottingham and is an exciting leap as we expand from the north into the Midlands. Our current venues have really created a buzz and we feel that Nottingham is really missing out.”
