Japanese-style lounge bar opens at Prince Akatoki London hotel

The Malt Lounge

The recently launched Prince Akatoki London hotel in Marylebone has opened the doors to its intimate lounge bar.

The Malt Lounge and Bar hopes to bring a “sophisticated destination offering” to area, providing Japanese-inspired afternoon tea during the day and rare Japanese whiskies, sake and signature cocktails at night.

Seating 30, the warm, modern décor incorporates leather and wooden seating, wood-clad walls and flooring and sliding fusuma panels.

Inspired by the “best of Japanese traditions”, the cocktail menu “applies Japanese flair to familiar classics”, and has been designed to tell a story through the combination of flavours, textures and presentation.

Influenced by ‘godai’, the five elements philosophy derived from Japanese Buddhism, the list is be divided into Earth (Chi), Water (Sui), Fire (Ka), Wind (Fū), and Void (Kū).

Signature drinks include the Akatoki Highball, a combination of Pandan-infused Akaski Blended Whisky, fig liqueur, homemade salted caramel syrup and ginger ale, from Chi, and the Japanese Fizz, featuring Seedlip Garden 108, kaffir lime, micro coriander, chilli, ginger syrup and lemon juice, from the non-alcoholic Void section.
