Anna Christopherson from Boda Bar in Edinburgh has won a trip to Tokyo as part of Jim Beam bourbon’s Jim Beam Presents: Class of 2018 bartender programme.
Earlier this year, Jim Beam launched the programme to engage with UK bartenders, offering attendees the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of American whiskey and learn about the craftsmanship and history behind the liquid.
Immersive college-themed classes were held in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham and London across May and June, featuring guest speakers and a focus on the rise of the Highball serve.
At the end of each programme, as part of their graduation, each bartender was given the opportunity to win a trip to Tokyo, Japan, the “home of the Highball”.
Anna (pictured below) was awarded the grand prize, thanks to her impressive entry submission, summer of creative activations, quality of serve, and outstanding sales results.
She departed from the UK last week to discover where the famous Jim Beam Highball serve originated. During her time in Tokyo, she will have a guided Shinbashi, Roppongi and Ginza Highall tour and be shown around the Hakushu Distillery.
Anna said: “Winning this competition is a huge deal for me and for the everyone working in the Boda Bars. Not only do I love bourbon but to be able to visit Tokyo will be very inspiring, since they seem to drink bourbon and whisky in so many different ways in Japan. I can’t wait to get lots of new ideas that we can bring back to the Boda Bars.
“As soon as I attended Jim Beam’s Class of 2018 programme and heard about the competition, I knew I wanted to enter. Introducing the Jim Beam Highball serve to Boda bars has been lots of fun and allowed me to get very creative with the serve. I am absolutely over the moon to have won.”
