The team looking after German premium beer Krombacher in the UK has been strengthened with the appointment of a sales director.
Working in the drinks industry for 17 years, Stephan Kofler is joining from on-trade drinks supplier Matthew Clark where most recently he was customer development director for the south-east.
He joins the existing team of Julian Penny and Daniel Luecker, who joined as sales manager for the UK in January. He will take up his new post as sales director for the UK and Italy from September 1.
The UK has been identified as a strategic growth market for Krombacher and the brewery has already been bucking the trend with volume growth of 58% for January to July this year.
Stephan said: “It’s a great time to join Krombacher. The UK has seen a steady growth in the world beer category and we are looking to capitalise on our current success.
“We plan to expand and further develop our customer base and will be seeking out new market opportunities within the UK.”
He will be focusing on increasing sales and distribution in both the on- and off-trade. His appointment follows new listings for Krombacher Pils in JD Wetherspoon and Revolution Bars.
The Krombacher portfolio in the UK also includes Krombacher Dark and Krombacher Weizen.
