Lanesborough to auction bar furnishings before redesign

Lanesborough Library BarFurnishings and “artefacts” from London’s luxury Lanesborough hotel, including its bars, are to be auctioned off before it closes for a major refurbishment.

The hotel will close its doors on December 20 and reopen during the last three months of 2014 after undergoing an extensive renovation project which will involve its bar areas.

Dating back to 1827, the Regency building at Hyde Park Corner became the five-star Lanesborough in 1991 and is operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Its bar areas include the Garden Room and the Library Bar (pictured) which, for 10 years, was presided over by leading bartender Salvatore Calabrese who now heads Salvatore’s at London’s Playboy Club.

The Lanesborough will be renovated according to the designs of interior designer Alberto Pinto, with enhancements planned for all guest rooms and public areas.

The plans mark Pinto’s final project before his death last year. His best-known projects include Hôtel Lambert in Paris, the Tour Odéon in Monaco and Seaside Hotel Palm Beach in Maspalomas on Gran Canaria.

The Lanesborough will be auctioning all existing furnishings and artefacts between December 9 and 13 at the hotel. Visit for information.
