Leading airlines to open bar inspired by first-class air travel

NY-LON Lounge Bar

Airlines Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines are to launch a stylish new lounge bar bringing the glamour of first-class travel to The O2 in London’s Docklands.

They are working with Manchester-based design agency Love on NY-LON Lounge Bar, which will specialise in aviation-themed cocktails as well as food inspired by New York City and London.

Due to open at the end of July, the venue promises to re-create the airlines’ first-class hospitality, from the airport lounge-style reception to the sleek lines and modern design of the bar and VIP spaces. It builds on their existing relationship as official partners of The O2.

It will be managed on behalf of the airlines by Levy Restaurants UK, which specialises in running bars, cafés and restaurants in the sports, leisure and hospitality sectors within Compass Group UK and Ireland.

The cocktail list – described fittingly as being based on “true blue-sky thinking” – has been developed by head mixologist Massimiliano Bua. It promises to offer creative twists on the classics alongside an innovative range of aviation-themed cocktails, from a classic Aviation through to original drinks with names such as Transatlantic, Flying Lady, Maiden Voyager, Atlanta and Cropduster.

NY-LON will feature dishes paying homage to NYC and London, such as a New York-inspired sharing board of cured meats as well as small plates such as the Billingsgate fish pie – named after the London market.

It will have capacity for up to 400 people and include a “secret space” for meetings, private dining and small events as well as a large bar and seating area. It will be open seven days a week.

Reuben Arnold, senior vice president of marketing and customer experience at Virgin Atlantic, said: “We’ve created NY-LON as a celebration of our transatlantic network which provides customers with a seamless, more enjoyable way to fly between the UK and US.

“Our lounge bar will offer customers a brand-new experience at The O2 that showcases our airlines’ world-class service.”

Tim Mapes, Delta’s senior vice president of marketing, added: “The iconic cities of New York and London are at the heart of everything we do. Opening NY-LON is the next exciting step in our partnership and we look forward to helping travellers enjoy the Delta-Virgin Atlantic brand of hospitality for which we’re famous when they next visit The O2.”

Members of the airlines’ frequent flyer programmes, SkyMiles and Flying Club, will benefit from a range of special offers and discounts.
