Leading industry names launch new bar consultancy

Amanda Blanch Chris Edwardes

Two leading figures from the UK’s bar industry have set up an international consultancy offering services including cocktail development, design and training.

Drawing on a combined experience of over 70 years in the hospitality business, Amanda Blanch and Chris Edwardes have formed Blanch Edwardes Consulting covering all aspects of running bars, hotels, restaurants and events.

Chris said: “We were doing this before but separately and by reputation. It occurred to us that we had been doing this for 20 years and together we have the full package.

“Amanda’s area of expertise is design and social media and mine is cocktails, restaurants and hotels. Both of us are passionate about service and training so it wasn’t rocket science – just a natural progression.”

Chris has been in the bar trade since 1975, working in London at Maxwells Bar and the Jazz Café and running bars at the Groucho Club, the Atlantic Bar & Grill, Pharmacy and GE Club at the Great Eastern Hotel.

He met Amanda, who became his wife, while running the bars at the Groucho Club. Drawing on her training in interior design, they set up award-winning restaurant and cocktail bar Blanch House in Brighton in 2000.

After moving to Ibiza in 2010 to set up cocktail bar Aura, they went on to open a bar, Hidden, in the north of the island. They are now based on the island of Hvar in Croatia, running Blanch Edwardes as well as Hidden House, an intimate bed and breakfast in the old town of Stari Grad.

Blanch Edwardes Consulting’s services include creating unique cocktail lists for bars, restaurants and hotels as well as producing homemade products to complement the back bar.

They can also provide comprehensive training programmes in all aspects of a hospitality business, specialising in cocktails, with an emphasis on the importance of service.

Their comprehensive design service covers interiors to the design of a back bar, from colour schemes to logos, menus and equipment, from lighting to music playlists.

They can also create events such as weddings, parties, competitions and festivals according to clients’ preferences and budgets.

Other services include helping to set up and maintain social media, finding website designers, and getting good photography and video content, working with film and photography bureau Schmick.
