A limited-edition 10-year-old rum has been launched in the UK from Don Papa, the world’s first single island rum from the Philippines.
Don Papa 10 is a super-premium, small-batch rum distilled from high-quality sugar cane and aged for 10 years in re-charred oak barrels in the foothills of Mount Kanlaon before being blended.
Distributed in the UK by Marblehead Brand Development, it was launched at the end of last week with exclusivity for one month through Harvey Nichols.
Dark amber in colour, Don Papa 10-year-old is deep, rich and powerful on the nose, with a delicate tingle in the mouth, exuding bold flavours of dried fruits and cacao, with just a hint of oak. It has ABV of 43%.
The rum’s potent character draws from the Philippines’ warm, humid climate, which yields one of the highest angel’s share in the world – the amount that evaporates out of the barrel during ageing.
Don Papa Rum founder Stephen Carroll said: “We are very proud to be able to bring out the 10-year-old and further share with the world some great Philippine rums. We have been delighted with the reception to Don Papa 10 in other international markets, and we expect this 10-year-old edition to enjoy similar success in the UK.”
Distilled in the Negros Occidental region of the Philippines, Don Papa is made by Bleeding Heart Rum, based in Manila.
