Liverpool bartender reaches final of Patrón competition

A bartender from Liverpool has won a place in the national final of a competition run for Patrón tequila seeking perfectionists.

Joe Wild (pictured below) from El Bandito, a tequila bar in Slater Street, triumphed in the northern regional heat of this year’s Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition, held at Mr Cooper’s House & Garden in Manchester.

He impressed the judges with his refreshing cocktail, Spirit of Sustainability (pictured above) – a long serve combining Patrón Silver with the citrus flavours of orange, grapefruit and lime, sweetened with orange blossom water and bee pollen-infused agave.

The competition challenges bartenders to create a Patrón cocktail “worthy of a perfectionist”, putting the same passion and care into crafting drinks as Patrón puts into producing its tequilas.

Joe will join the winner of four other heats at the UK final in London on November 16. The southern final was won by Steve Young from Pier 64 in Penarth in south Wales, while the Scottish heat will be held on September 6 and the east and west London heats will be on September 12 and 13.

The UK winner will receive a luxury trip to the Hacienda Patrón – Patrón Tequila’s stunning distillery in the highlands of Jalisco in Mexico. The winning cocktail will also feature as a limited-edition special serve at the winner’s bar.

The first Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition ran in the UK last year and has now expanded to an international level for 2016, featuring bartenders in Mexico, Australia, UAE, France, Spain and Italy. All the winners will meet at the Hacienda in January where they will then compete in the grand final.

50ml Patrón Silver
15ml Orange liqueur
25ml Lime juice
15ml Bee pollen-infused agave
2 dashes Orange blossom water
35ml Grapefruit juice
Homemade rose soda
Combine all the ingredients part from the soda, and shake. Pour into a Collins glass and top with soda.
