London bars triumph in new European-wide awards


Connaught Bar

The Connaught Bar and The Gibson in London were among winners in the first European-wide Mixology Bar Awards held in Berlin last night.

The bar at The Connaught hotel (pictured above) was named best European bar while its director of mixology, Ago Perrone, won the title of best European mixologist.

The Gibson (pictured below), which was opened in Old Street at the end of last year by bartender Marian Beke, was named best new European bar.

The three categories were added to the Mixology Bar Awards for the first time this year, extending them from their traditional coverage of Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

The winner of the other European-wide category, best spirit or bar product, was Stiggins’ Fancy Plantation Pineapple Rum from Maison Ferrand, distributed in the UK by Identity Drinks Brands.

The 10th Mixology Bar Awards were held last night at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin-Mitte ahead of the first day of the European trade show Bar Convent Berlin. It was hosted by Courvorsier’s global brand ambassador Rebecca Asseline and Belgian bar entrepreneur Ben Belmans.

Germany led the winners in the categories for Germany, Switzerland and Austria including Imperii in Leipzig, Goldene Bar in Munich, The Parlour in Frankfurt and Bar am Steinplatz at Hotel am Steinplatz in Berlin. Best bar winners in each country were Widder Bar in Zurich, Hammond Bar in Vienna and Les Fleurs Du Mal in Munich. See below for the full list.
