Love Drinks founder recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Kirst Loveday Love Drinks

Kirsty Loveday, the founder and managing director of Love Drinks, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her services to the drinks industry.

She has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) after setting up the drinks distribution and marketing business in 2007 and building it to an annual turnover of around £6m.

The company has developed and reinvigorated premium drinks brands including Hayman’s Gin, El Dorado rums, Gosling’s Rum, Abelha Organic Cachaca and Mr Black Cold Press Coffee Liqueur – one of the most recent additions to its portfolio.

Kirsty, aged 37, said: “It is hugely flattering and quite overwhelming to be recognised as making a significant contribution to the drinks industry. My passion has always been to help build quality brands, support and recognise innovation and showcase the unique heritage behind each of our partner’s products.

“Through working with and educating operators about the intrinsics of these great drinks, premium products are now de rigueur amongst consumers who prefer quality over quantity.”

Kirsty started her career at leading drinks companies including Anheuser-Busch and Allied Domecq. While at premium spirits company Castle Brands, she launched Goslings Rum in the UK – a market that now represents 53% of the Bermudian brand’s export sales within Europe. It earned her the title of brand ambassador of the year in the Class Awards.

Others from the drinks and hospitality industry in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours included Innocent Drinks co-founder Richard Reed and John Hyde, chairman of HIT Training, where were both made a CBE. Glen Grant’s master distiller Dennis Malcolm has been made an OBE.

Gill Romy, founder of Romy’s Kitchen in Bristol, has become an MBE while both chef Shirley Spear, founder of The Three Chimneys on Skye and chair of the Scottish Food Commission, and Valerie Johnson, owner of Frankie’s Fish and Chips in Brae on Shetland, were made an OBE.
