Luminar Awards

Staff from nightclubs across the UK have been recognised for their achievements in the annual awards run by operator The Luminar Group.

Russell Quelch from Oceana in Southampton won the title of general manager of the year while Simon Wilson of newly refurbished Club Batchwood in St Albans, Hertfordshire, was named deputy manager of the year.

Nick Jackson, general manager at Evoke in Chelmsford, Essex, was presented with the Graham Peel Award which is given in memory of a former employee for an individual who displays outstanding energy, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial flair.

The award for Luminar’s regional director of the year went to Martin Winter who covers the east and Scotland.

The company’s head of club development Eric May received the Special Contribution Award for his achievements over the last 12 months, during which he project-managed 16 nightclub refurbishments out of an estate of 53, maximising a budget of more than £5million.

The awards were held as part of the company’s annual conference at Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire. It also featured a review of company performance, demonstrating a 50% increase in profits, and presentations by industry voices including the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers’ chief executive, David McHattie.

Luminar chief executive Peter Marks said: “It has been an incredible 12 months for The Luminar Group which has continued to go from strength to strength in terms of financial performance, investment and innovation.

“Our awards present a great opportunity to thank our employees and recognise the calibre and strength of our management team and emerging star performers. We have a bright future ahead as we embark on the next phase of our journey.”

Luminar is Europe’s largest nightclub operator with 53 clubs in the UK. It has more than 2,000 employees, many of whom are under 25 years old.
