Luxardo 2015 Cocktail Campione Competition open for entries

David Hamilton Boyd Luxardo Campione

The search is now on to find the 2015 Luxardo Cocktail Campione: an extraordinary bartender with the skill to create original, exciting cocktail recipes using Luxardo. This year’s theme is “La Famiglia”, or the family, in honour of the Luxardo family who have been producing classic Italian liqueurs since 1821. Whether it’s your family, the Luxardo family or even the Addams Family, Luxardo want to taste and experience your family-inspired creations.

The competition is open to UK residents, aged 18 years and over, who work in the drinks industry, whether that be behind the stick or behind the scenes. To be in with a chance of winning a place in September’s final in Italy and the £3,000 cash prize, each entrant is required to submit an image or video of their family-inspired Luxardo cocktail. Cocktails must include at least 20ml of Luxardo products. Whether it’s the Maraschino, Sangue Morlacco, or one of the classics, Limoncello or Sambuca, entrants have the entire Luxardo range to choose from.

If you think you have what it takes to be this year’s Campione, watch the trailer and submit your entry at before the closing date provided on the website.

Last year, Luxardo crowned the UK’s first Luxardo Campione after a thrilling two-day final extravaganza at the home of the Luxardo family, Padua, Italy. Last year was all about Italian Inspirations, and winner David Hamilton-Boyd (pictured top and below) impressed the judges with both the depth of his research and quality of his drinks. His winning cocktail was rich with references to the volcanic history of Italy and the turbulent periods the Luxardo family have survived throughout their personal history.

“I’ve always been very familiar with the Luxardo range and have used it throughout my career, so when I heard about the Luxardo Cocktail Campione, I knew I had to enter,” David says.

Once online entries had been shortlisted and regional heats were completed, three finalists were whisked off on the trip of a lifetime to Padua to meet the Luxardo family, at Luxardo’s very own distillery. “Matteo was a wonderful host. It was fantastic. Seeing the passion that goes into making the range bartenders use so often was really special and it really helped me with my Italian Inspiration and my winning cocktail, Dolce Vita Sunshine.” This was David’s unforgettable cocktail featuring cheese.

Since winning the 2014 Luxardo Campione crown, and its £3,000 cash prize, David has been busy. Already a director of organic catering and cocktail design service Organic Spirit, he has recently announced his new venture, The Kent Mobile Bar Company. “The prize of £3,000 helped me massively with side projects and having the Luxardo Cocktail Campione title has helped my presence in the industry.”

For those keen to enter, last year’s champion, David has some advice. “Do your homework. Luxardo has a lot of history to work with which can be tied into your recipe. Make it stand out from the crowd but, above all, respect your ingredients.”
