Luxardo announces its UK Cocktail Campione after final in Padua

Matthew Hastings (pictured) has been announced as winner of a UK cocktail competition by Italian liqueur producer Luxardo after a final held in Padua.

Matthew, from The Treehouse in Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, was named Luxardo Cocktail Campione 2015 and won a prize of £3,000 after creating a cocktail inspired by the theme of “La Famiglia”.

He competed in the final against two other UK bartenders, Manacháin Monaghan from Monk in Buxton in Derbyshire, and Troels Knudsen from Steam & Rye in the City of London.

Matthew’s cocktail, Home From Home, combined Luxardo Maraschino Originale with Italian bitter herbal liqueur fernet and chocolate bitters plus lemon juice and egg white. He explained: “Our bar is our home (quite literally in my case) and my fellow bartenders are my family. This drink combines all our favourite ingredients into a delightful drink that we’re proud to say represents our family, and our ‘home from home’.”

The two-day grand final involved impromptu creativity and a market dash for ingredients, hosted by director Matteo Luxardo and brand ambassador Mister G Franklin.

The competition links to Luxardo’s La Famiglia campaign, launched by UK distributor Cellar Trends, highlighting how Padua-based Luxardo is Italy’s oldest family-owned producer of high-quality liqueurs and spirits.

Competitors could use any product from the Luxardo range of classic liqueurs: Maraschino, Sangue Morlacco, Limoncello, Amaretto, Aperitivo and sambucas and its cocktail cherries.
