A new online resource has been created for bartenders and consumers to learn about scotch whisky, from its production and heritage through to cocktail ideas.
Launched at The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show in London at the weekend, Scotchwhisky.com currently includes interviews with distillery managers, blenders, scientists and ambassadors, tasting notes on the latest releases, cocktail recipes, and other features on the diverse world of scotch.
A key feature is the Whiskypedia, the most reliable and informed encyclopaedia of scotch whisky distilleries, companies and brands available on the web ranging from the history of different distilleries to in-depth production data and information.
Over the coming months, new sections will be added, including cocktail recipes, themed tastings involving both trade and consumers, competitions, related lifestyle features, and a bottle library containing details of over 45,000 bottlings.
Content will be written and curated by drinks writers Dave Broom, Becky Paskin and Richard Woodard plus contributors including bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, co-founder of London bars White Lyan and Dandelyan, as well as other experts such as Alice Lascelles, Fiona Beckett, Gavin Smith and Martine Nouet.
The site’s “chief engineer”, Dave Broom, said: “We want it to be a site where whisky geeks (and we include ourselves as such) will find the detailed information they desire. As importantly, however, this is a site where the whisky newcomer is welcomed, a place where they can start their whisky journey. It also places whisky in a wider context, as a spirit which comes from, lives in and influences a wider culture.”
