Martin Miller’s Gin has been proclaimed winner of a “gin-off” run by London bar Graphic – a competition to find the best gin through a series of cocktail challenges.
Running since June, the Graphic Gin-Off started with eight brands which also included Elephant Gin, East London Liquor Company, Whitley Neill Gin, Hayman’s, Opihr, Sipsmith and Jensen’s.
They were whittled down to just two – Martin Miller’s and Jensen’s – which took part in a final at the Soho bar last week.
Inspired by romance and adventure, Martin Miller’s brand ambassador and bartender Aidan Bowie created the winning cocktail, the Cucumber Nettle Gimlet, served in a cucumber that could then be enjoyed along with the homemade Martin Miller’s Gin botanical hummus.
Guests were given a polling card on arrival, which they used to vote after trying the two cocktails created by Martin Miller’s and Jensen’s for the night.
Martin Miller’s Gin received the Copper Still Trophy, with the victorious cocktail allocated a place on Graphic’s 2016 menu.
The super-premium Martin Miller’s Gin is made with pure Icelandic water and botanicals sourced from wherever the best crop is found. It uses two separate distillations, distilling the juniper and the earthier botanicals along with the dried lime peel and then distilling the citrus peels separately, combining both distillates later.
Jensen’s created the spicy Parting Shot, combining Jensen’s Old Tom and Linie Akvavit with intense hits of ginger, green chilli and lemon softened with acacia honey.
