Marylebone Leisure Group unveils new cocktail bar concept

Barsmith Farringdon

The Marylebone Leisure Group has unveiled a new cocktail bar concept in London with plans to open more throughout the capital.

Due to be officially launched next month, Barsmith in St John Street, Farringdon, will be an all-day bar specialising in house-infused spirits and cocktails served with “a flourish of fun and a hint of eccentricity”.

It has been created by Ben Avigdori and Lawrence Santi, the duo behind The Marylebone Leisure Group whose other sites include The Marylebone, the Princess of Wales in Primrose Hill and The Longroom in Clerkenwell.

Barsmith’s interior was devised by leading practice Simple Simon Design, which has worked on many other bars and restaurants including Bath Ales’ bars such as Beerd in Bristol and Graze bars around the south-west.

Promising treasure chest cocktails with a curl of dry ice and curious cocktail-filled soup cans, they aim to create an affordable high-end cocktail experience, with cocktails priced at £7.95.

Highlights include the decadent Milky Way, combining homemade white chocolate vodka with their coffee rum, amaretto and organic cream, and the zesty Hot Stuff Baby, using homemade citrus-infused vodka mixed with carrot juice, egg white and muddled with stem ginger and chilli.

The Barsmith cocktail is made with rum infused with ginger and honey, with a little lychee and lime juice, peppered with mint leaves and topped with ginger beer.

The infused spirits will include chilli gin, ginger and honey rum, orange tequila and white chocolate vodka which are created in a custom-built laboratory in central London.

All the fresh produce in the drinks, such as fruit and herbs, come from New Covent Market each morning. Barsmith will also offer a wide range of craft beers and wines.

From the kitchen there will be a selection of Italian-influenced small plates and thin-crust pizzas topped with Neapolitan tomatoes, Buffalo mozzarella and a variety of fresh toppings. Cured meats and cheeses will be available from the deli counter.

Barsmith will also play host to musicians on a weekly basis, with live acoustic singers performing on Thursdays from 7pm to 10pm and DJs every Friday from 7pm to 1am.

After officially launching the first site in Farringdon in September, Ben and Lawrence hope to grow the Barsmith brand throughout London.
