Marylebone Gin has been declared the winner of Graphic bar’s Gin Off 2018, which saw 16 gin brands compete through a series of cocktail making heats.
The competition, which took place at the Soho bar, commenced in April. The final, hosted this November, saw Marylebone, Brooklyn, Fords and Nicholson gin battle it out for the crown.
Gin Off was introduced by Graphic to provide an opportunity for gin-makers to showcase the versatility of their spirit and for guests to sample lesser-known and firm favourite gins in cocktails.
Each of the contending brands put forward a bartender to create an “imaginative” cocktail that showcases their spirit.
The rules stated that the cocktail must be served in a disposable vessel and many brands opted to inventively present their chosen drink within an edible container, such as inside an ice-cube or a hollowed-out cucumber.
Judging quests, who voted with polling cards, crowned Marylebone Gin the champions with their Canopy cocktail which combines Marylebone Gin with orange sherbet, lemon, Curaçao and soda.
As 2018’s winner, Marylebone was awarded a Copper Still Trophy and will be featured on Graphic’s cocktail menu next year.
For the past two years Audemus Spirits’ Pink Pepper Gin has held onto the competition crown.
