Meatliquor team announce new site in north London

The team behind Meatliquor restaurants have announced plans to open what will be their eighth site next summer.

Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins hope to open the new business in what is currently an abandoned Citroen garage in Upper Street, Islington, which has played host to many pop-ups in recent years.

It will be spread across the old garage as well as workshops, offices, store rooms and a newly unearthed cellar and basement plus outdoor seating for 40 people. Licensing permitting, they hope to open it in summer 2015.

The Islington project has been announced as they prepare to open a new site in Trinity Leeds this September followed by Bristol in October. Last year, they opened Meatliquor in Brighton (pictured).

In a statement, Scott and Yianni said: “We never expected to open in Islington’s Upper Street. The property came to us and it was something we couldn’t turn down. We hope to do it proud.”

The business dates back to Meatwagon which started popping up in car parks and industrial estates across London in 2009 before the high-quality fast-food concept was established in permanent sites in London.

They opened Meatliquor in Welbeck Street, Meatmission in Hoxton Market and Meatmarket in Covent Garden and, this year, took over Wishbone in Brixton to make it Chickenliquor. The restaurants are well known for their cocktails, created by Soulshakers.
