Cocktails with tequila and mezcal are fuelling the parties at new Mexican restaurant and late-night bar El Patrón in south-west London.
Opening last month in Putney, the bar offers over 60 different tequilas and mezcals alongside authentic-style Mexican street food in a vibrant Latin interior. It has been opened by Andrew Taylor who previously ran the site as House of Roxy.
The house tequila is AquaRiva, the range launched by TV presenter Cleo Rocos, who is an ambassador for the venue. Signature drinks include Escobar’s Secret, a mix of mezcal, crème de mûre, vanilla syrup, lime, apple and ginger ale. The Scorpion combines AquaRiva Blanco with Stone’s Ginger Wine, lime, chipotle, falernum liqueur, ginger beer and bitters.
The bar’s Margaritas include twists such as the Jalapeno and Blood Orange Margarita while sharing cocktails such as Piñata and the Head Hunter are served in eye-catching Mexican-inspired vessels.
Set over two floors, the décor features reclaimed brick and brightly coloured wooden shutters plus a striking skull mural in an authentic Mexican style. Stairs covered in beautiful mosaic paintings lead guests downstairs where the warm wooden interior and quirky design features will ensure a party atmosphere until late (pictured top).
Guests enjoy the Mexican street food and sharing dishes at informal wooden tables. Dishes include burritos, tacos and quesadillas, alongside tortilla chips with a variety of different salsas and El Patron’s Secret Guacamole.
To add to the tongue-in-cheek style, guests are greeted by a heavily moustachioed, poncho-clad boss – el patron. Groups can delve into a party box full of Mexican props and moustaches, and there is a photobooth to capture their antics.
El Patron is open Monday to Saturday from midday to 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, to 12.30am on Thursdays, to midnight on Wednesdays and to 11pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Weekly events will feature a Mexican Saturday brunch party with live entertainment and #tashonthursdays where the best moustache selfie of the night will be awarded a special prize.
