Mixologist brings creative edge to bar’s new list

Susie Wong The Violet HourAward-winning Manchester bar The Violet Hour has launched a new cocktail list in collaboration with leading mixologist Susie Wong.

Susie, who is based in Manchester, drew on her expertise in bartending and cocktails as well as a background in fashion and art to come up with original drinks for the West Didsbury bar.

New cocktails include Ruby Woo, an uplifting mix of Finlandia Vodka, Blossoms sour cherry syrup, aloe vera, lemon juice and rose water with a cherry pop garnish.

Another is The Gentleman’s Geisha, an exotic blend of Evan Williams extra-aged bourbon, plum sake, pear and Boker’s bitters, garnished with a pear fan.

Tony’s Tipple is a playful cocktail made with Appleton Estate 12 Year Old rum mixed with crème de banana and Frosties-rinsed milk, served in a milk bottle.

Susie, who is pictured above with Tony’s Tipple, has worked for some of Manchester’s best bars such as Epernay and Sandinista but also work as a consultant.

Owner Dan Pollard, who opened The Violet Hour nearly two years ago, said: “We’re incredibly excited about our new cocktail list. Susie has spent many hours planning it and we have spent days in vintage fairs and markets looking for the right glassware in which to show off the drinks.

“At The Violet Hour, our aim is to create an overall experience, incorporating an excellent cocktail list with an interesting food menu and contemporary music to cater for all tastes.

“There are a lot of bars in Manchester that claim to offer cocktails but we take extra care in not only creating a great menu for our customers that they’ll love but creating a drink they’ll remember – one that everyone will be talking about.”
