Morgenrot adds Spanish cider to portfolio

Drinks importer Morgenrot has added Avalon Sidra to its broad portfolio of wines and beers after growing interest among British consumers in world ciders and Spanish food and drink.

Produced by acclaimed cider maker Trabanco in Spain’s cider heartland of Asturias, Avalon is a premium dry cider which is carbonated and unfiltered and has an ABV of 5.5%.

It is well balanced with fine bubbles and clean aromas of green apple and hints of balsam. Available in 33cl bottles with a recommended price in retail of £1.50 to £1.80.

Morgenrot national account director Graham Archibald said: “We have been on the lookout for the right cider for a long time and are delighted to finally have Avalon which looks stylish plus oozes authenticity, heritage and refreshment quality.

“It is the perfect fit for our portfolio and we are confident it will see strong interest in the on- and off-trades.”

The Trabanco family business owns 100 hectares of orchards in Asturiaa, growing traditional apple varieties. These are selected and prepared with age-old techniques working with modern techniques and innovation. The juice is fermented with indigenous yeasts in accordance to the guidelines for “Naturally Fermented Quality Cider”.

The brand name Avalon is taken from the legendary island in Arthurian legend which is taken fomr the Welsh, “Ynys Afallon”, thought to be derived from “afal”, meaning apple.
