Importer set to grow rum-flavoured beer in UK

Beer and wine importer Morgenrot is to drive growth in the UK for premium beer Bachata, flavoured with Cuban rum, after adding it to its portfolio.

The drinks company, which specialises in beers from around the world, has taken the brand on because of the success of spirit-flavoured beers, or “speers”, in the UK.

While many spirit beers are made with flavourings and syrups, Bachata uses carefully sourced Cuban rum that has been produced from natural sugar cane and aged in oak casks for seven years. This delivers a well-balanced full flavour providing crisp lager refreshment with subtle vanilla and citrus twangs.

Available in 33cl bottles with an ABV of 5.3%, the brand takes its name from a style of music based on Cuban salsa and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. It was launched last year by Flagship Brands.

Morgenrot national accounts director Graham Archibald, said: “Speers have definitely added something different to the market and are a fixture which I believe will stay and continue to see growth.

“To this end, it was important for our portfolio that we offered one but we knew we needed the right brand. Bachata is definitely that – a unique, great-tasting beer, made with quality in mind which fits perfectly in our offering. It’s great to be working with Bachata as we look to grow the brand in the coming years.”

Flagship Brands director Paul Baxendale said: “After launching last year and quickly generating a strong base of fans, it was important that we began working with an importer who could help increase the brand’s national presence and help it move to the next stage. Morgenrot offer the brand exactly this. It’s a pleasure to be working with them and exciting for Bachata.”
