Rémy Cointreau has today announced that it is releasing a limited-edition XO Cask Strength expression for Mount Gay Rum.
With ABV of 63%, only 3,000 bottles will be available worldwide, including the UK, launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Barbadian independence this year. It will have a recommended price in retail of £140.
Featuring a blend of rums matured for eight years to 15 years, the rich, oaky taste is rounded out by notes of ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla and spice and leading to a smooth finish.
Master blender Allen Smith said: “This is our tribute to the spirit of Barbados, the original birthplace of rum, and the people that make this island so unique.
“To taste XO Cask Strength is to experience everything that fans love about XO, but gives connoisseurs the special opportunity to enjoy the truest intensity of XO aromas straight from the casks.”
Each bottle will come in a beautiful wooden box with a booklet that will take readers through the history of rum’s birthplace. A portion of the sales of every bottle sold will be donated to the Barbados Museum and Historical Society to support its efforts in conserving the history and culture of Barbados.
