Mum’s the word: cocktails for Mother’s Day

Bene Mama lrCocktails for treating and toasting mum on Mother’s Day have been created by leading bars and bartenders.

The team at Shaker & Company in Euston, London, have come up with a Fruity Muma (pictured) especially for Bénédictine liqueur in time for Mothering Sunday on March 30.

The elegant twist on the classic Bellini is a mix of sweet, herbal Bénédictine, juicy peach and piquant pineapple flavours topped off with ice-cold prosecco to lighten and lengthen.

Fruity Muma

20ml Bénédictine
15ml Peach puree
15ml Pineapple juice
10ml Lemon juice

Shake the Bénédictine, peach puree, pineapple juice and lemon juice with lots of ice for four seconds. Strain into a chilled champagne flute then slowly top up with prosecco, stirring carefully. Add a lemon twist garnish.

Bartender Megs DeMeulenaere of The Last Word Saloon in Edinburgh has devised Mum’s The Word for Hendrick’s Gin. The gin, with its infusions of rose and cucumber, is combined with the sweet aroma of Yellow Chartreuse to create a refreshing tipple.

Mum’s The Word

25ml Hendrick’s Gin
35ml Yellow Chartreuse
10ml Freshly squeezed lime juice
10ml Blue curaçao
Spritz of absinthe

Stir all the ingredients except the absinthe over ice until well chilled and slightly diluted. Spritz the glass with absinthe and pour in the other mixed ingredients.
