New appointments support growth for Hi-Spirits


Chris Deacon Hi-SpiritsLeading UK drinks company Hi-Spirits is stepping up growth after creating a new role of managing director and recruiting a leading bartender to build sales in Scotland’s on-trade.

Dan Bolton will join as managing director in May after previously heading wine importer Louis Latour Agencies. He will look after day-to-day operations, freeing up the time of co-founders Jeremy and Sue Hill to focus on innovation, marketing and further development.

The company has appointed Chris Deacon (pictured) to work with Scottish on-trade operators to build sales of the Hi-Spirits’ brands, which include Buffalo Trace bourbon, Antica sambuca, Ron Abuelo rum, Broker’s Gin and Fireball cinnamon liqueur.

Chris was previously bar manager at Tigerlily in Edinburgh and also managed bars in Australia and New Zealand and worked at Edinburgh bars Tempus and The Voodoo Rooms. He also made the finals of the global Diageo World Class cocktail competition held in Moscow.

Deacon will work with bar operators to develop new listings, cocktails and signature serves for the full range of Hi-Spirits brands. He said: “My operational experience gives me a strong understanding of the support bartenders need from a spirits supplier. In my new role I’ll be an ambassador for the brand, helping to develop their full potential in the Scottish on-trade.”

Jeremy added: “His passion for high-quality spirits drinks and service, combined with his knowledge of the Scottish bar scene, will be huge assets for Hi-Spirits as we continue to expand our distribution.”

Dan will join Hi-Spirits on May 1 with a wealth of experience in the drinks industry. Before joining Louis Latour Agencies in April 2011, he was national account director at on-trade drinks supplier Matthew Clark and director of sales at Bibendum Wine.

He said: “I believe that all the company’s brands have much more potential for growth in the UK, and so one of my first priorities will be to ensure we have both the operational structure and the focus to drive growth on the existing portfolio, whilst always keeping an entrepreneurial eye on the many new product opportunities that are out there.”
