A new coffee has been created for lovers of American whiskey in a collaboration between Bulleit and The Gentlemen Baristas.
The limited-edition Bulleit X Gentlemen Baristas coffee is made with beans that have been rested in American oak single-fill casks that previously held Bulleit Bourbon. It produces warm spice notes reminiscent of bourbon but with no alcoholic content.
The coffee, unveiled at last week’s London Coffee Festival, is being sold from The Gentlemen Baristas coffee house in Southwark and at bars such as Callooh Callay in Shoreditch. It is available to buy from fine food emporium World of Zing.
Two varieties of the bourbon barrel-aged coffee have been created – one for espressos and one for filter.
The Trucker is an espresso coffee made using single-origin beans from Los Hernandez in El Salvador. It is a smooth coffee with sweet lime acidity, citrus and orange blossom floral notes. With a heavy mouth feel of rich dark chocolate, the Bulleit ageing gives a sweet zesty finish to the espresso.
The Gatsby is a filter coffee using single-origin beans from Cuacacayo in Colombia. The smooth coffee has a syrupy mouth feel and a balanced acidity. Boasting milk chocolate and caramel, with hints of keylime, strawberry and green apple, the Bulleit provides a spicy note as a finish.
The beans, sourced from sustainable and 100% ethical coffee plantations, are transported to east London where they are rested in the casks supplied by the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Kentucky. They then undergo a bespoke roast by The Roastery Department.
Bulleit’s UK brand ambassador, Andrea Montague, has created cocktails using the bourbon barrel-aged coffee including the Gentlemen’s Agreement, inspired by the unique flavour of the Gatsby filter coffee. The rich warm spice notes taken from the Bulleit Bourbon barrel are highlighted by roasted coconut and nutmeg. This contrasts with a slight citrus lift at the back palate and is accentuated by the floral orange flower water.

35ml Bulleit bourbon
80ml Gatsby Filter – Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee, chilled
20ml Roasted coconut and nutmeg syrup
1 drop orange blossom water
Throw drink and serve over ice.
