Quintessential Brands has been enlisted to help the new owner of Cockspur Rum grow the brand in the UK.
Once the most dominant rum brand in its native Barbados, Cockspur was sold in June by Goddard Enterprises to drinks company Woodland Radicle.
The new owner is now transferring UK distribution from Whyte & Mackay from September 1 this year to Quintessential which will handle it through its businesses, Essential Drinks and Marblehead Brand Development.
Woodland Radicle is planning to rebuild the brand which dates back more than 130 years, including an upgrade of its packaging.
Steve Wilson, CEO and co-founder of Woodland Radicle, said: “We are delighted to be working with Quintessential Brands and are confident that, with their track record in brand-building, they are the right partner to bring the fun, excitement and growth back to Cockspur.”
Warren Scott, co-founder of Quintessential Brands, added: “Cockspur rum is a brand with great potential in the UK right now. It epitomises the fun, relaxed party vibe of Barbados where the brand was born over 130 years ago, and it’s this authenticity that appeals to the growing legion of rum drinkers in the UK today.”
Despite the change of ownership, the rum continues to be produced and bottled in Barbados.
