New drinks awards to be judged by bartenders

A new UK awards programme for spirits, liqueurs and other drinks has been created – judged solely by professional bartenders.

In an industry first, the Bartender’s Best Awards bring together a panel of the most experienced bartenders working in bars across the UK to judge awards for spirits, liqueurs, fortified wines, champagne and cocktail bitters.

Drawing on the combined experience of the panel of experts, the process for judging the submitted products has been designed to be completely rigorous, transparent and fair.

The programme has been conceived by business partners James Triffo and Dan Priseman who are well known in the bar and drinks industry and founded the acclaimed NOLA Bar in Shoreditch, London.

Using a completely blind, independently audited process designed to offer total transparency, the award categories have been created to reflect products as they are used in a bar.

Products will be categorised by price, rather than age statement, providing a level playing field for all brands, regardless of size and budget.

The rigorous judging process ensures that the results will have relevance to both consumers and the greater bar community.

Any spirit, liqueur, fortified wine, champagne or cocktail bitters consistently available for sale in the UK is eligible to enter the awards.

A proportion of the proceeds generated by the awards will go towards forming an educational trust fund for bartenders to further their education and training.

Dan said: “It’s our hope that brands will believe in their products enough to enter them into the Bartender’s Best Awards, knowing that regardless of whether they win or not, they are supporting bartenders to further their careers and raise the standards in the UK drinks trade.”
