A new range of premium mixers is being launched into the on-trade which combines interesting new flavours with the buzz of energy drinks.
The four-strong range of Gloworm mixers have been created to match different spirits for simple serves as well as more creative cocktails.
The flavours are: Raspberry & Orris; Cucumber & Apple; Pear, Spice & Lime; and Ginger & Lemongrass. More flavours will be developed once the brand is established.
They have been created by the team behind Boost, the energy drink brand for the independent retail sector.
Gloworm contains 30% less caffeine per 100ml than leading energy drink, Red Bull, and is free of taurine and sugar. It comes in 150ml cans to suit a single serve in the on-trade and minimise wastage.
Serves have been developed with events and drinks consultancy Zest Mixology, including mixologist Adam Findlay who previously worked for Leeds-based bar operator Arc Inspirations.
Raspberry & Orris combines a fresh raspberry flavour with notes of orris from the iris flower – an ingredient often used as a gin botanical. With a floral twist, it is best mixed with vodka.
Cucumber & Apple has a crisp, green apple flavour balanced with essence of freshly-sliced cucumber, best suited for combining with gin.
Pear, Spice & Lime is a blend of sweet pear and ginger flavours, with a touch of warm spice, rounded off with essence of lime, making it a good match for rum.
Ginger & Lemongrass mixes spicy ginger extract and the subtle flavour of lemongrass plus essence of lime, recommended for serving with bourbon.
However, Adam at Zest Mixology said that the range also offered bartenders new ingredients for adding a twist to classic long drinks such as a Cucumber & Apple Collins.
A range of point-of-sale materials are being developed for introducing Gloworm into the on-trade nationally in January.
