New look and location for 2014 RumFest

Ian BurrellA fresh new look and a new venue have been announced for RumFest, the UK’s annual showcase for rums from around the world.

Returning for an eighth year, the main RumFest for consumers and the trade takes place on Saturday and Sunday October 11 and 12, featuring rum tastings alongside master classes, seminars, cocktail demonstrations, food and music. More than 400 different rums are expected to be included.

On the evening of Friday October 10, the trade-exclusive Boutique RumFest will feature brands that are emerging and new to the UK. During the daytime on the Friday, there will be a taster for the annual four-day Rum Experience University, with bite-size sessions for rum professionals and enthusiasts.

The three-day programme of events will take place at the ILEC Conference Centre at the Ibis London Earl’s Court in west London. On top of standard tickets at £49.95 for Saturday and Sunday, visitors can buy Golden Tot Tokens for £5 each which open up access to more premium rums on offer.

Global rum ambassador Ian Burrell (pictured), the founder of RumFest and the Rum Experience University, said: “This year’s RumFest sees a welcome move to celebrate the changes we are seeing within the category with a rise in the premiumisation of rum and its growing popularity.

The RumFest aims to help embrace these developments by providing an opportunity for industry and consumers to experience something extra special and giving these rums the platform to showcase these changes.”
